Most Promising Director at VIFF

Ontario director Andrew Cividino won $2,000 — Viff’s only award for the short film category — as most promising director of a Canadian short film, for his short We Ate the Children Last. “If I knew this was coming, I would have ironed my jacket,” he told the Vogue Theatre crowd. The jury selected this film “for its creation of an apocalyptic, yet fully believable world.”

We Ate the Children Last will have it’s Maritime premiere this September at the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Film Forge attended the AFF once before in 2009 with Brad Smith’s directorial debut,Fading Fast. We’re honoured by this warm east coast welcome, and can’t wait to screen WATCL outside of Toronto.

World Premiere at TIFF

We are excited to announce the world premiere of We Ate the Children Last at the Toronto International Film Festival this September. We had an opportunity to meet a number of filmmakers at TIFF’s press conference earlier this month and are thrilled to be screening alongside a diverse selection of shorts from across the country. The Toronto International Film Festival, celebrating it’s 35th anniversary this year, ranks among the world’s premiere festivals and has launched successful festival runs for many of our favourite Canadian films.
